The Norwegian cult formation Ulver has been a fixed star in the metal universe for decades. But lately the legendary black metal band has been taking strange detours. Prog, psych, Kraut, and drone fuse into epic narrations, exalting the music into elegiac orchestral works. The group – who collaborates with talents like Sunn O))) – has also taken a step in the direction of grave interpretative electronics. Most recently they developed an intriguing film soundtrack permeated with premodern folk elements for Riverhead by Justin Oakley, a crime thriller set in Newfoundland.
