It’s been seven years since Waka Flocka Flame released his solo debut, Flockaveli. And while the MC, born Juaquin James Malphurs, has gone on to become a global icon, reality TV star and EDM artist, it wasn’t his plan to wait this long to release the highly-anticipated Flockaveli II. “This is the fourth time I’ve made Flockaveli II,” he says. “I lost originally Flockaveli II when I lost my hard drives. And then I lost two more. With this version of album, I just did it.” Despite the delays, Flockaveli II is a return to Waka’s roots. That’s why the album’s first release is “Trapping My Ass Off,” a Lueny G-produced club anthem, which will be rattling from speakers from the A to L.A. “I’m touching the streets with that one. I am not being political,” he says. “This is for the people who hustle at whatever it is they do. Whether they are on the block, on the stage or at their office job. We are all out here trapping our asses off.”
For Waka, it’s always been about remaining true to those roots. He’s since collaborated with fellow A-listers like Drake, Future and A$AP Rocky. His high energy performances both in the booth and onstage earned him the title of “Turn Up God” and is one of the many reasons that he’s been welcomed into the world of EDM. He’s toured with Steve Aoki to record with Borgore and Flosstradamus.
